Would that me like ". . . me’ trespass. . . " as spoken by an old Irish actor? Or like ". . . forgive me, trespass. . . " Sorry, I am not tracking this right.
Forgive me like grant me, or allow me. it’s an archaic usage but, I was trying to channel a little King James.
Forgive me” is a plea for forgiveness of the whole self, acknowledging personal responsibility or guilt.
“Forgive my” is a request for forgiveness focused on a specific action or fault.
Thank you, it makes perfect sense. And in that vein, it works well. I did a college history paper entitled “James I and the Divine Right of Kings”. But I didn’t use the vernacular. ![]()
