Mermaid

Mermaid.

She loved the sea,
drew complicated artwork on beaches,
with pebbles, shells, and coloured glass,
using whatever the sea provided.

A fragile little thing,
ill equipped to deal with life,
swam whenever she could,
never caring about the weather

Knew she couldn’t be fixed,
that doctors and pills wouldn’t work.
And when nothing else seemed possible,
she made her choice.

Found by a river,
close to water,
her torment ended,
the Mermaid went home.

Particularly liked the visuals of S1 Gyppo.

This has a very strong pull for a reader like me. The pull to pursue yer dreams against the push to treated as if it’s an ailment and in the end arriving there anyway.

Just a small suggestion. I don’t think you need all the commas for a pause when, at least for me, the line break makes that happen.

Beautiful and sad poem, very effecting, and I like the matter-of-fact way the narrator describes the mermaid and her life. well done.
