Diplomacy

Diplomacy

the art of dealing with people
in a sensitive and tactful way.

The art and practice
of building and maintaining relationships
and conducting negotiations with people
using tact and mutual respect.

kind of looks like
sensitivity, tact and respect
are no longer required

and moral obligations
after dishonoured assurances
(Clinton’s greatest regret)
are conveniently disremembered, bigly

a comedian and a clown
one small, one big
desperation and greed shook hands
then
a hasty exit
some say he was pushed, many times
they’re not sure how many, but
it was a big number,
later on x
they called him a ‘midget’, so
it probably wasn’t too many

Almost begging, to save his country
aware of his position
a hero comedian went to
what used to be the world’s sheriff

he found ridicule
and discovered how low
the $ has reduced
the American Dream

How many real Presidents
are turning in their graves?
How many of your troops,
who fought, and died
for democracy…

That silver badge
doesn’t belong to you now.
You’ve ripped it off yourself.
But don’t worry,
you won’t bleed!

Found myself nodding in agreement Colm, though diplomacy can be a wrapping for many dirty deeds. However, what diplomacy can achieve is an acceptance that compromise achieves peace, though dealing with the mindsets of dictatorships which thrive on confrontation is a diplomacy challenge. Obviously, war is the opposite of compromise and the posturing has become polarised. I don’t know what the American dream is, but the oligarchy there should look to how Putin dealt with Russian oligarchs.
